3MC3: 3rd RILEM International Conference on Mineral Carbonation for Cement and Concrete

The third conference in a growing international series on CO2 mineralization, carbonation chemistry, cement-based materials, and low-carbon binder research.

About the conference

Advancing mineral carbonation science for cement and concrete

3MC3 will bring together researchers, engineers, and industry professionals working at the intersection of CO2 mineralization, cement chemistry, concrete technology, SCMs, and carbon capture and utilization.

3MC3 is the third conference in the Mineral Carbonation for Cement and Concrete series. The 1st edition took place at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in 2024, and the 2nd edition took place at Tokyo University in Japan in 2026. The Bilbao meeting continues the series with a strong emphasis on scientific depth, international participation, and discussion across laboratory, pilot, and industrial scales.

The conference will also include a special session linked to the EU MSCA Doctoral Network CONTRABASS, creating dedicated space for doctoral research, training-oriented exchange, and discussion on carbonation of calcium silicates and aluminates in low-carbon cement systems.

Program

Scientific program

The program will include keynote lectures, oral presentations, short oral presentations, and poster sessions. We will continue the MC3 “single-room” philosophy, without parallel sessions, to maximise impact and discussion among participants.

View scientific program
Plenary lectures Invited talks from international leaders in carbonation science and low-carbon materials.
Technical sessions Oral contributions on mechanisms, recycling, mineralization, binders, and scale-up.
Poster sessions Interactive presentation format for detailed studies, methods, and emerging results.
